Faster than threading over larger areas, and the better choice for fine hair across a whole surface.
Threading is the more precise technique, but it works one row of hair at a time, which makes it slow across a large area. Waxing clears a whole surface in one pull. For a full face, an arm, or a leg, that difference is the entire reason to choose it, and it is why we offer both rather than insisting on one.
Wax also handles very fine, pale hair better. A thread needs something to grip; downy hair across a cheek or a jawline can slip through it, whereas wax lifts everything in the area it covers. If you have been threading and finding the result patchy on the softer parts of the face, this is usually why.
The trade-off is honest and worth stating. Wax adheres to the top layer of skin as well as to the hair, so it is more likely to leave the area red, and it does not suit skin that is compromised. If you use retinol, acids, or anything prescribed for acne, waxing on that area can lift skin. Tell us what you are using and we will either work around it or send you to threading instead. We would rather do the smaller job well than the bigger job badly.
Hair needs to be roughly a quarter of an inch long for wax to take hold, which is about two weeks of growth. Coming in too soon is the single most common reason a wax underperforms. Do not shave between appointments if you can help it, because it resets that cycle and brings the hair back blunt.
If it is your first time, the part people underestimate is how quick it is. An upper lip takes well under a minute of actual waxing, and most of the appointment is prep and aftercare. It stings, briefly, and then it is done. Nobody has to make conversation through it either, which we mention because a surprising number of people say afterwards that the small talk was the bit they were dreading.

How the appointment goes
Skin check
What you are using at home, and whether the area is suited to wax at all. Sometimes the answer is threading.
Prep
The area is cleaned and a barrier applied so the wax lifts hair rather than skin.
Wax
Applied in the direction of growth and removed against it, in sections.
Soothe
Residue removed and a calming layer applied. Redness settles within a couple of hours.
Afterwards
- No sun, sauna, hot tub or heavy exercise for 24 hours.
- Skip fragranced products on the area for a day.
- Exfoliate gently from day three to keep ingrown hairs down.
- Let the hair reach about a quarter of an inch before the next visit, and do not shave between.

No. That is a persistent myth. Hair removed at the root grows back at its original thickness or finer, and regular threading tends to make regrowth slower and softer over time, never coarser.
It is the gentlest option we offer, which is why people with rosacea, eczema, or skin that reacts to wax tend to switch to it. Because there is no heat and nothing adhering to the skin, threading does not lift the top layer the way waxing can. If you use retinol, acids, or acne medication, tell us before we start so we can work around it.
